Our 6 Step Program

This program of six regularly scheduled visits include fertilizer, crabgrass control, weed control, and a soil test. Spot treatments of difficult-to-control weeds are included. To keep the program affordable, we do not include fungicide treatments in the program. Should a fungicide treatment be needed, an option will be given for purchasing that service at a discounted price.

Round 1:

Early Spring: Application of pre-emergent crabgrass control and balanced granular fertilizer as the weather permits.

Round 2:

Spring: Application of broadleaf weed control as the weather permits.

Round 3:

Summer: Application of pre-emergent crabgrass control, balanced granular fertilizer and spot weed control treatments as needed.

Round 4:

Late Summer: Application of balanced fertilizer and spot weed control treatments as needed.

Round 5:

Fall: Application of balanced granular fertilizer and spot weed control treatments as needed.

Round 6:

Late Fall: Application of balanced granular fertilizer. This is one of our most important Rounds. It helps grass store food for the winter and promotes healthy root growth.

Soil Test:

This is completed at the time of the Round 6 application. The test determines the acidity of the soil for lime requirements.

Lawn Fertilization Program
Jonny Nichols Lawn & Tree offers customized approaches to lawn fertilization. A program can be from three to six applications per season, designed to meet the customer needs. The six step applications are spaced 4-6 weeks apart. We also offer programs for customers who want only fertilizers and for customers who want only weed control. Customers are able to change their program to fit their needs at any time during the season. Any customer who is on a regularly scheduled program also receives free service calls if they are not satisfied with an application.

Weed Control
Even the most beautiful lawn is likely to have weeds appear at some point. Keeping a lawn "weed-free" takes more than just having a couple of herbicide treatments each year. Nature finds ways to make sure something starts growing in any lawn that has become too thin. Bare patches of soil quickly fill up with broadleaf and grassy weeds of all sorts. That's why a healthy thick stand of grass is the very best weed prevention there is. We recommend 5-6 fertilizer applications per year to keep that beautiful thick weed free lawn you desire.

Grub Control
There are several types of white grubs that feed on the roots of lawn grasses. All of them can cause severe damage if left untreated. Grubs (the larvae of a number of beetles) can become serious lawn pests when present in high numbers. The beetles lay their eggs in your lawn, and the newly hatched worms feed on roots of a wide variety of grasses, cutting the roots and loosening the sod. Most beetles lay their eggs mid to late summer, and te young grubs do their greatest damage during the fall months. Lawns infested with grubs will show irregularly shaped patches of wilted, dead or dying grass in April and May and again in August to mid-October. Grass does not always recover from severe grub injury, but it can regrow if the injury is moderate. Grubs don’t disappear on their own. The best time to apply preventative grub control is from mid-June to August

Tree and Shrub Care
Your trees and shrubs represent a growing investment worth protecting. Our program of scheduled inspection and treatment helps to keep all your ornamentals healthy and in top growing condition. Our plan of protection can include insect management, disease management, deep root fertilizing, and dormant oil applications. We can combine these pest management services with properly timed and applied fertilizations. There are hundreds of insects and diseases that can attack and infest your landscape. Our trained and licensed staff are able to identify and control these problems before severe damage or plant loss occurs.
